Because the JPG format has no transparency channel, any see-through areas in your PNG are painted onto a solid white background before the JPG is written - so a logo or icon that was transparent lands on white rather than turning black. A quality slider (default 0.9) then lets you trade the output file size against visual fidelity, which is what makes JPG a smaller, photo-friendly result than the original PNG for pictures with a lot of color detail.

Painting the PNG onto the canvas and encoding the JPG both happen locally through the Canvas API, so the PNG file never leaves your device or gets uploaded. Nothing you choose here is kept past the page session or shared with an analytics or tracking service, and no account or signup is needed.
