Zip menggunakan algoritma Deflate. Deflate menemukan pola byte berulang dan menggantinya dengan kode yang lebih pendek. Setelah satu pass, polanya hilang. Pass kedua pada data yang sama tidak menemukan apa pun untuk diganti.
