Respuesta de 30 segundos. Re-zipear un zip existente casi nunca lo hace mas pequeno porque los contenidos ya estan comprimidos. Las dos cosas que funcionan: extrae primero, comprime los archivos mas pesados dentro (imagenes, PDFs, audio) con una herramienta diferente, luego re-zipea; o elige un formato mas fuerte (7z, zip-con-LZMA) cuando el destinatario lo soporte.

Por que re-zipear no hace casi nada

Zip usa el algoritmo Deflate. Deflate encuentra patrones de bytes repetidos y los reemplaza con codigos mas cortos. Despues de una pasada, los patrones se van. Una segunda pasada sobre los mismos datos no encuentra nada para reemplazar.

Que funciona: extraer, comprimir, re-zipear

  1. Extrae el archivo localmente para que puedas ver los archivos individuales.
  2. Ejecuta el compresor correcto en los pesados. Un JPEG de 5 MB cae a menos de 1 MB via compresion de imagen.
  3. Re-zipea los archivos mas pequenos. Usa compresion Best en documentos y Store en los medios (ahora mas pequenos).
