Void Trader

Void Trader is a real-time space trading roguelike. You start with 500 credits, a light ship, and one life. Each sector has asteroids to mine, stations to dock at, and pirates that hunt you. Clear a sector to jump deeper; die once and the run ends. Press Play to launch.

Controls at a glance:

ActionInput
Move shipWASD or arrow keys
Aim / fireMouse / left click
Missile / shieldRight click or X / Space
Dock / cargoE (near station) / Tab
Pause / restartEsc / R

Stations buy and sell five goods - Titanium Ore, Crystal Shards, Plasma Cells, Nav Data, and Quantum Core - and also repair hull, recharge shields, restock missiles, and upgrade the ship from Scout to Fighter to Cruiser. Mining fills your 20-slot cargo; asteroid hits damage the hull. Pirates scale with depth and pay a bounty.

Eight sectors. Clear every enemy to jump deeper; clear sector 8 to win. Nothing is saved - each visit is a fresh permadeath run. The game is a single 50 KB HTML file (Canvas 2D + Web Audio) and plays best on a desktop. It runs on Orbitron by Daniel Silva Perez under the MIT license, rebranded here as Void Trader.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Void Trader do?

It is a browser space trading roguelike: fly through eight procedural sectors, mine asteroids for ore, dock at stations to buy and sell five trade goods, upgrade your ship, and fight pirates. Clear a sector to jump deeper. Die once and the run ends.

Does it work on a phone?

The page and the game load on a phone, but the controls are keyboard and mouse only (WASD, click to fire, E to dock). There are no on-screen touch buttons, so a desktop or laptop is the practical way to play.

Is anything saved in my browser?

No. The game is permadeath and session-only - there is no localStorage write, no high-score list, and no account. Each visit starts a fresh run with 500 credits.

How do I make money?

Mine asteroids (they drop Titanium Ore into your cargo), then dock at a station with E and sell what you are holding. Stations also stock the other four goods at randomized prices, so buying low in one sector and selling high in a deeper one is the main profit loop. Destroying pirates pays a bounty in credits too.

What happens when my ship is destroyed?

The run ends immediately. Press R to restart from sector 1 with a fresh ship and 500 credits. There is no continue and no checkpoint.
