How to View Pteranodon in 3D


Pteranodon 3D Viewer runs a crested Pteranodon - a pterosaur (flying reptile), not a dinosaur - in your browser. Drag to rotate, scroll or pinch to zoom, toggle a 1.8 m person against its wingspan, and click the crest, a wing, or another part for a fossil-sourced fact.


Open the Pteranodon page and take the camera

Open the Pteranodon 3D Viewer and wait for the facts panel to fill. When the status line says you can drag, orbit the Pteranodon with the pointer and zoom with the scroll wheel or a two-finger pinch. Fullscreen expands the wrapper so the controls stay visible beside the scene.

Under the Pteranodon canvas, four controls handle view and scale:

  • Fullscreen - fills the display while keeping the buttons visible
  • Stop rotation / Auto-rotate - freezes or resumes auto-spin
  • Idle motion - adds subtle breathing and sway; tap again for Stand still
  • Size vs human - shows a 1.8 m person at the honest wingspan scale used by the viewer (about 6.5 m for a representative large adult; adult males are commonly about 5.6-7.6 m)

The Pteranodon facts panel lists wingspan about 6.5 m (adult males commonly about 5.6-7.6 m), weight about 25 kg (published estimates often about 20-50 kg), the 86-84 Mya Late Cretaceous window, diet Carnivore (mainly fish), and discovery - Othniel Charles Marsh named Pteranodon longiceps in 1876 from Kansas. The procedural model uses the pterosaur branch with membrane wings and a backward crest. A short click - not a drag - on the head, crest, body, a wing, or a leg surfaces a short fossil fact; click empty space to return to the species sheet. Skin and color are an artistic reconstruction, not a fossil-accurate skeleton. No free-licensed Pteranodon glTF is re-hosted yet, so the page stays procedural. The page states plainly that Pteranodon was a pterosaur, not a dinosaur.
