Check Aquarium Water With Before & After Photos - Step By Step
This is the five-minute routine for tracking water clarity with Aquarium Water Checker. The whole check runs in your browser: both photos are read pixel by pixel on your device and never uploaded.
Step 1 - shoot two comparable photos
Same spot, same angle, same lighting: tank light on in both shots, room light unchanged, camera flash off. Keep a fixed background object in frame - the filter intake or heater - because the sharpness measurement locks onto those edges. The tool warns you when the two shots differ too much in exposure to compare fairly.
Step 2 - load them into the checker
Drop the earlier photo on the left and the current one on the right. If the photos carry a capture time, it appears under each preview so the report can state how far apart the two states are.
Step 3 - add tank details (optional)
Enter the tank volume and your fish counts to add a stocking-pressure estimate. If you prefer, the optional on-device AI pass (about 147 MB, downloaded once after you click) can suggest what it sees in the photo to prefill the form - you confirm or correct the counts.
Step 4 - read the report
You get a clarity score 0-100 per photo, the delta between them, a named optical pattern (milky bloom, dust speckle, green shift, amber tint), and a swipe slider to scrub between the two states with your own eyes.
Step 5 - act, then re-shoot tomorrow
Follow the prioritized action list - a feeding pause for a milky bloom, fine filter floss for dust, a shorter light period for a green shift - and repeat the same photo the next day. The trend across days is the answer; remember that water chemistry still needs a liquid test kit.
