Passport Photo Maker: When To Use It, Steps, Alternatives
Open Passport Photo Maker when you need one passport or visa photo quickly, with nothing to install and no account. It composites your portrait onto a plain white background at the preset's exact pixel size, computed at 300 DPI for printing.
When it fits
It fits a quick, one-off run: one portrait, one size, one download. Presets cover US, India, Schengen/EU, UK, Australia, Canada and China visa sizes, and "Custom size (mm)" takes any width and height in millimeters when your destination is not on that list. Check "Also generate a 4x6in print sheet" to also download a tiled sheet with as many copies as fit on one page.
The three steps
- Open the tool. Nothing needs to be installed or signed in before you start.
- Choose a portrait photo and pick your size preset, then drag the photo to position the face inside the frame and use the Zoom slider to fill it.
- Click Generate photo and save the result from the Download links. Everything runs locally via the Canvas API, so the photo is never uploaded to a server.
How it compares with a desktop app or an upload-based service
This is one of three common ways to do the job: a browser-based tool like this one, a desktop application, or an upload-based online service. Each trades off differently on where your data goes and what you need installed.
| Aspect | Passport Photo Maker (this tool) | Desktop application | Upload-based online service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where your data goes | Stays on this device - runs in the browser | Stays on this device | Uploaded to a server |
| Install required | No | Yes | No |
| Works without an account | Yes | Yes | Varies by service |
What it does not do
This crops and resizes to the right dimensions on a white background - it does not remove or replace an existing background, auto-detect or center the face, or verify compliance with a specific passport office's full requirements (lighting, expression, head coverings); check your destination's official rules before submitting.
Why trust these tools
- Ten-plus years of web tooling. The freetoolonline editorial team has shipped browser-based utilities since 2015. The goal has never changed: get you to a working output fast, without an install.
- No install, no sign-up. Open a tool and get a working output in seconds - nothing to download and no account to create. Tools that need heavy processing run it on our service, so even a low-powered machine gets the job done.
- Analytics stops at the page view. We measure which pages get visited, not what you type or upload inside a tool. There is nothing to sign in to and no profile is attached to your input.
- Open-source core components. The processing engines underneath (libheif, libde265, pdf-lib, terser, clean-css, ffmpeg.wasm, and others) are public and audit-able. We link to each one in its tool page's footer.
- Free, with or without ads. All tools are fully functional without sign-up. The Disable Ads button in the header is always available if you need a distraction-free run.
