How to Use the AI Story Generator - Step by Step
The AI story generator turns a one-line premise into flash fiction or the opening scene of a longer story, entirely in your browser - no account, no upload. This page walks through each field and what happens after you press Generate story.
Step 1 - open the tool
Go to the AI story generator. Nothing needs to be installed or signed in. A sample premise and its finished demo story start are already visible, so you can see the output shape before typing anything.
Step 2 - describe your story
Type a premise of one or two sentences - the situation the story starts from. Optionally add a main character name and a setting. Then pick one of six genres (adventure, fantasy, science fiction, mystery, romance, comedy) and one of three lengths: flash fiction of about 150 words, a short story of about 300 words, or an opening scene of about 200 words that ends on a hook.
Step 3 - press Generate story
The status line under the button always names the engine that wrote the visible text. On recent Chrome with built-in on-device AI, the story is written with nothing to download. On every other browser you instantly get a deterministic template: a genre-flavored story start assembled from your inputs, labeled as a scaffold to rewrite rather than AI prose.
Step 4 - optionally load an on-device model
For original AI prose on any modern browser with WebGPU, pick a model in the panel below the output and press Load model. The exact download size is shown before the download starts; Llama 3.2 1B is the smallest, the 3B option writes noticeably better prose. The files are cached, so later visits and the private AI chat page reuse the same download, and the writing itself runs on your device.
Step 5 - copy and rewrite
Use the Copy story button and paste the draft into your own document. Treat it as raw material: press Generate story again for a different take, then keep the ideas that work and rewrite the sentences in your own voice.
