Character Counter is worth opening when you need a quick, one-off run without installing anything. This page covers when that fits and when it does not.

When it fits

Use it to check a post against a word limit, estimate reading time for an article, or get a quick character count for a bio field.

What to expect

Counting runs locally in this browser tab - no upload and no account.

Nothing you type is saved; refreshing the page clears the box.

When it does not fit

Character Counter does not help if the text you want counted is locked inside a file such as a DOCX or PDF - the tool works on text you type or paste, not on uploaded documents, so you would need to open the file and copy the text out first.
