How to Record Your Screen Online - Screen, Camera, or Microphone

A screen recorder captures your screen, camera, or microphone right in the browser. Pick a source, then Start, Pause, and Stop while a live timer runs. Turn on optional face blur, download the clip as WebM, or convert it to MP4. Everything stays on your device, with no upload and no account.

Steps

  1. Pick a source: camera, camera and microphone, microphone only, or your screen.
  2. Optional: turn on face blur and set the blur strength before you start, on a supported browser.
  3. Click Start, then Pause or Resume as needed, and watch the live mm:ss timer.
  4. Click Stop; the clip appears with playback controls and a Download link.
  5. Optional: convert the clip to MP4 in the browser, then download it.

Recording sources

Four sources are available. Camera records video only; camera and microphone records both; microphone only captures audio; screen records a window, tab, or full display. Recording starts only after you click Start and grant the browser permission. If you end a screen share from the browser chrome, recording stops on its own.

Optional face blur

On a browser with the face detector available, face blur hides detected faces on your device before the recorder sees the frame. Set the blur strength from 1 to 10. Where the detector is missing, recording continues without blur and the control is hidden. The settings below are what the tool uses.

SettingValue
Blur strength range1 to 10 (default 5)
MP4 video codecH.264, CRF 22
MP4 audioAAC, 128 kbps
MP4 module sizeAbout 31 MB, loaded once

WebM and MP4

The clip is saved as WebM by default. To get MP4 (H.264), click Convert to MP4; a one-time module of about 31 MB loads on first use and the re-encode runs entirely in the browser. Long clips can be slow and are limited by your device memory.

Privacy

Everything runs in your browser. There is no upload widget and no account; recordings stay on your device and are never uploaded, and nothing persists after you leave the page.

Why trust these tools

  • Ten-plus years of web tooling. The freetoolonline editorial team has shipped browser-based utilities since 2015. The goal has never changed: get you to a working output fast, without an install.
  • No install, no sign-up. Open a tool and get a working output in seconds - nothing to download and no account to create. Tools that need heavy processing run it on our service, so even a low-powered machine gets the job done.
  • Analytics stops at the page view. We measure which pages get visited, not what you type or upload inside a tool. There is nothing to sign in to and no profile is attached to your input.
  • Open-source core components. The processing engines underneath (libheif, libde265, pdf-lib, terser, clean-css, ffmpeg.wasm, and others) are public and audit-able. We link to each one in its tool page's footer.
  • Free, with or without ads. All tools are fully functional without sign-up. The Disable Ads button in the header is always available if you need a distraction-free run.
