Text to Speech is worth opening when you need a quick, one-off run without installing anything. This page covers when that fits and when it does not.

What to expect
The voice, language, speed and quality controls sit above the text box. Generation runs on your own device with a neural voice model the page downloads once (about 380 MB, then cached), so the same ten voices are available on any machine and the result can be downloaded as MP3 or WAV.
It fits less well in two situations. On a metered or slow connection the one-time model download of about 380 MB is a real cost, and on a low-memory phone the model may not load at all - in both cases the quick device voice is the sensible choice, at the price of a voice that changes from device to device. It also renders a segment before you hear it, so very long text takes a while before the first sound.
