How to Use the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter 3D Explorer


Open the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter 3D Explorer, scrub the flight-milestone slider, then read the facts panel to see the real published date, flight number, and altitude at each milestone.


Scrub the flight-milestone slider

Drag #t3dFlightScrub (0 to 4) to move the helicopter to each of the 5 real published flight and mission-status milestones, from the 2021-02-18 landing with Perseverance to the final flight on 2024-01-18.


Read the milestone table

The facts panel lists all 5 milestones - the landing, the first flight, the rotor-speed increase, the extended-mission mark past 50 flights, and the final flight - with the currently active one highlighted. Scrub the slider and watch the highlighted row change to match.


Toggle the Earth rotor-speed comparison

Check the "Compare to a typical Earth helicopter's rotor speed" box to reveal a second, smaller helicopter model on a side platform, spinning at roughly one-fifth the visual rate. The facts panel adds both real rpm figures side by side - about 2,400-2,700 rpm on Mars versus about 400-500 rpm on Earth.


Drag to orbit and use fullscreen

Drag to orbit the camera, scroll or pinch to zoom, and use the Fullscreen button to expand the whole wrapper for a clearer view of the terrain, the rover marker, and the helicopter.
