The countdown label switches to "It's today!" and stops updating once the target date arrives. To start a fresh countdown to a different holiday after that, reload the page or pick another entry from the holiday dropdown - the tool does not automatically advance to the next holiday on its own.

The floating holidays use one of two rules: an nth-weekday-of-month rule (Memorial Day is the last Monday in May; Thanksgiving in the US is the fourth Thursday in November) or the Easter Sunday date, which the tool derives with the Meeus/Jones/Butcher algorithm and then offsets (Good Friday is two days before Easter Sunday; Easter Monday is one day after).
What happens when a fixed-date holiday falls on a weekend?
The full-year table marks a fixed-date holiday as observed on the nearest weekday when it lands on a weekend: a holiday that falls on Saturday is annotated "observed Fri" with the prior day's date, and one that falls on Sunday is annotated "observed Mon" with the following day's date. This note only applies to the fixed-date holidays in the table above (New Year's Day, Independence Day, Christmas Day, and the rest of that column); the nth-weekday and Easter-based holidays such as Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Good Friday already fall on a weekday by definition and never carry the note.
For example, Independence Day (July 4) falls on a Sunday in 2027, so the United States table for that year annotates it as observed the following Monday (Jul 5, 2027) next to the true July 4 date. The annotation is informational only - the holiday date used for the countdown and the shareable link never changes, only the observed-day note shown next to it in the full-year table.
