Pick flat or tiered, enter a sales amount and a rate (or a quota and two rates), and the commission earned updates as you type - the tiered view shows the quota-rate and accelerator-rate portions as separate line items. A reference table below the result shows what a 3% to 25% flat rate would pay on the same sales amount, so you can compare plans without re-typing the number.
Commission Calculator
The commission calculator answers the pay question directly: enter a sales amount and a flat commission rate, and the commission earned is on screen as you type. Switch to the tiered structure to model a quota - everything up to the quota pays a base rate, and only the amount above the quota pays a separate accelerator rate, so the base-rate portion never gets re-rated at the higher percentage. Everything runs in your browser - nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere, and no account is needed.
Key features
- Two structures: a flat rate on the whole sale, or a tiered quota plus accelerator rate.
- The tiered breakdown shows the quota-rate portion and the accelerator-rate portion as separate line items, so the arithmetic is visible, not just a final number.
- A reference table below the result shows what a flat 3% to 25% rate would pay on the sales amount entered - useful for comparing plans.
- Gross commission only, before any draw, clawback, cap or tax a real plan might apply.
Flat vs tiered commission
A flat-rate plan pays the same percentage on every dollar sold. A tiered plan pays a base rate up to a quota and a higher accelerator rate only on the amount above it - so hitting quota does not retroactively raise the rate on the dollars already sold below it, it only raises the rate on the dollars above it.
| Sales amount | Quota | Base rate | Accelerator rate | Commission |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3,000 | 5,000 | 5% | 12% | 150 (entirely base rate - quota not reached) |
| 10,000 | 5,000 | 5% | 12% | 850 (250 base + 600 accelerator) |
Reading the totals
The math is plain arithmetic on the numbers you type - it is not payroll, tax or financial advice. Draws against future commission, clawbacks on returned sales, plan caps and withholding are not part of the calculation; every number comes from you.
For other money math on this site, the hourly-to-salary calculator converts an hourly wage into annual pay, the markup calculator works out a seller's cost-plus selling price, and the discount calculator reduces a known retail price by a percent off. This page is for commission earned on a sale or sales period only - sales amount and rate in, commission out.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the commission calculator do?
It turns a sales amount and a commission rate into the commission earned - or, in tiered mode, a quota and two rates into a base-rate portion plus an accelerator-rate portion, added together.
What is the difference between flat and tiered commission?
Flat pays the same rate on every dollar sold. Tiered pays a base rate up to a quota and a separate, usually higher, accelerator rate only on the amount above the quota - the dollars already sold below quota are never re-rated at the higher percentage.
Is my sales data sent anywhere?
No. Every figure you enter - sales amount, quota, base rate, accelerator rate - stays on this page and recalculates live as you type; none of it is transmitted off your device, and no login or account is required to use the calculator.
Does this calculator include tax, draws or clawbacks?
No. It is gross commission only, before any draw against future commission, clawback on a returned sale, plan cap or tax withholding - those are not part of the calculation. Not payroll or tax advice.
