How to View Troodon in 3D
Troodon 3D Viewer runs a big-brained Late Cretaceous small theropod in your browser. Drag to rotate, scroll or pinch to zoom, toggle a 1.8 m person for scale, and click a body region for a fossil-sourced fact.
Open the Troodon page and take the camera
Open the Troodon 3D Viewer and wait for the facts panel to fill. When the status line says you can drag, orbit Troodon with the pointer and zoom with the scroll wheel or a two-finger pinch. Fullscreen expands the wrapper so the controls stay visible beside the scene. After first paint a license-clean CC-BY-SA 4.0 glTF may swap in automatically from the CDN; if that load fails the page stays on the procedural theropod silhouette with zero regression.
Use the four Troodon controls under the canvas
Under the Troodon canvas, four controls handle view and scale:
- Fullscreen - fills the display while keeping the buttons visible
- Stop rotation / Auto-rotate - freezes or resumes auto-spin
- Idle motion - adds subtle body sway; tap again for Stand still
- Size vs human - shows a 1.8 m person at the honest panel length ratio used by the viewer (2.4 m)
Read the Troodon facts panel and click a body part
The Troodon facts panel lists length about 1-3 m across published sources (panel baseline 2.4 m), hip height about 0.6 m (panel baseline), mass about 10-50 kg (panel baseline 50 kg), the Late Cretaceous Campanian window about 77-76.5 million years ago from the Judith River Formation, Montana, omnivore diet (debated), and naming by Joseph Leidy in 1856 from a single tooth. Troodon had one of the largest brain-to-body-size ratios of any known dinosaur, large forward-set eyes, a sickle-shaped claw on the raised second toe, and up to about 35 small serrated teeth per jaw side. The genus name is scientifically debated - related fossils have at times been placed in Stenonychosaurus, Latenivenatrix, or Pectinodon; a 2025 study (Varricchio et al.) proposed a neotype specimen (MOR 553). A short click - not a drag - on a body region surfaces a short fossil fact. Feather color and pattern are an artistic reconstruction. This model is not a fossil-accurate skeleton.
