When to Play Space Huggers
Space Huggers fits when you want a fast, procedurally generated run-and-gun session with no accounts and no saved progress to manage.
When you want a quick arcade run
Space Huggers starts you with 10 lives and adds 3 more per level cleared - a session ends when your lives run out, so it fits a short break as easily as a longer one.
When you want replay value
Levels are procedurally generated and blocks/cover are destructible with spreading fire, so no two runs play out the same way. Pick it when you want a roguelike with no fixed ending.
When you have gamepads for local co-op
Up to 4 players can join with connected gamepads for local co-op. Skip it if you only have a mouse - Space Huggers has no mouse control and no touch controls.
When to pick another game instead
Want a best score or progress saved in this browser? Space Huggers keeps nothing between sessions - try Retro Tank Battle (best destroyed-tanks count saved) or Level 13 Incremental (autosaved progress) instead. Want a short fixed campaign instead of a roguelike? Try Retro Arcade Shooter's 3 levels.

Why trust these tools
- Ten-plus years of web tooling. The freetoolonline editorial team has shipped browser-based utilities since 2015. The goal has never changed: get you to a working output fast, without an install.
- No install, no sign-up. Open a tool and get a working output in seconds - nothing to download and no account to create. Tools that need heavy processing run it on our service, so even a low-powered machine gets the job done.
- Analytics stops at the page view. We measure which pages get visited, not what you type or upload inside a tool. There is nothing to sign in to and no profile is attached to your input.
- Open-source core components. The processing engines underneath (libheif, libde265, pdf-lib, terser, clean-css, ffmpeg.wasm, and others) are public and audit-able. We link to each one in its tool page's footer.
- Free, with or without ads. All tools are fully functional without sign-up. The Disable Ads button in the header is always available if you need a distraction-free run.
