How to Use the Venus Atmospheric Superrotation 3D Explorer - Step by Step


Open the Venus Atmospheric Superrotation 3D Explorer, press Play, and watch the cloud-top layer lap the planet dozens of times while a marker on the solid body underneath barely turns - the real published ~60x speed ratio, played back on one shared clock.


Set the speed and press Play

Drag the #t3dVsrSpeed slider to pick how many simulated Earth days pass per real second (0.5 to 20, default 5), then press #t3dVsrPlayPause. The two rotations always keep the same ~60x ratio no matter how fast you play them back, because the slider only changes playback speed, never the two published periods themselves.


Read the live readout while it plays

Watch #t3dVsrReadout count simulated days elapsed, how many full cloud-top laps have completed, and how many degrees the solid-body marker has turned. Press #t3dVsrReset to zero the clock and start the comparison over from day 0.


Toggle the wind-streak ring and cloud shell

Use #t3dVsrToggleStreaks to hide or show the ring of wind-streak marks and the translucent cloud-deck shell riding above the solid body, so you can compare the bare rotating sphere against the faster cloud layer on top of it.


Toggle the solid-body marker

Use #t3dVsrToggleMarker to hide or show the yellow longitude marker on the solid body - the one part of the scene that stands in for Venus's real, permanently cloud-hidden rocky surface.


Drag to orbit and use fullscreen

Drag to orbit the camera, scroll or pinch to zoom, and use the Fullscreen button to expand the whole #t3dWrapper for a clearer side-by-side view of the two rotation speeds.
