How to Play Hex Puzzle Blocks - Step by Step
Hex Puzzle Blocks is a hexagon color-matching puzzle played right in the browser: blocks fall toward a hexagon in the center of the screen from all six sides, and rotating the hexagon lines up 3 or more same-colored blocks so they clear. This guide covers the controls, the combo window, pausing, fullscreen, and how your progress is saved.
Start a run
Open the page and a launch panel renders straight away - press Play and the game canvas loads inside the page. Blocks immediately begin falling toward the center hexagon from all six sides, and the run is live as soon as the first block lands.
Rotate with keyboard, click, or tap
On a keyboard, use the Left or Right arrow keys, or A and D. On a mouse or touchscreen, click or tap either half of the screen to rotate the hexagon that direction. Line up a falling block next to 2 or more blocks of the same color, and 3 or more touching same-colored blocks clear and add to your score.
Speed up and chain the combo
Hold the Down arrow or S to temporarily speed up the current falling block when you want a match sooner. Clearing a match starts a combo window, shown as colored lines draining around the outer hexagon - clear another match before the lines empty and the multiplier keeps climbing, raising the points each clear is worth.
Watch the pace and know when a run ends
The falling pace speeds up gradually the longer a run lasts, turning the puzzle into a race against the incoming waves as well as a color-matching game. A run ends when blocks pile up past the hexagon's edge on any of its six sides without clearing.
Pause, restart, and fullscreen
Press P, Space, or the pause icon to pause; Enter or the restart icon starts a fresh run. The page-level Fullscreen button plays the game bigger once you have pressed Play, and the in-game help overlay lists the controls plus a credit to the game's original authors.
Keep your progress and top scores
Progress mid-run and your top 3 scores save automatically to this browser's local storage, so returning later resumes where you left off. Nothing is uploaded, and progress does not follow you to a different browser or device. The game has no sound effects or music, so play it with audio off without missing anything.
Why trust these tools
- Ten-plus years of web tooling. The freetoolonline editorial team has shipped browser-based utilities since 2015. The goal has never changed: get you to a working output fast, without an install.
- No install, no sign-up. Open a tool and get a working output in seconds - nothing to download and no account to create. Tools that need heavy processing run it on our service, so even a low-powered machine gets the job done.
- Analytics stops at the page view. We measure which pages get visited, not what you type or upload inside a tool. There is nothing to sign in to and no profile is attached to your input.
- Open-source core components. The processing engines underneath (libheif, libde265, pdf-lib, terser, clean-css, ffmpeg.wasm, and others) are public and audit-able. We link to each one in its tool page's footer.
- Free, with or without ads. All tools are fully functional without sign-up. The Disable Ads button in the header is always available if you need a distraction-free run.
